Sunday Service:

10:00am - 11:00am

Rostrevor Church seeks to be a vibrant and faithful Christian presence in the community reflecting the teaching of Jesus who calls us to "love one another as I have loved you".John 15 v 12

Welcome

A very warm welcome to you from the Rostrevor Presbyterian Community from whatever part of the world you come. We are a small but caring congregation in one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. Our Church building has a backdrop of the beautiful Mourne Mountains and in the foreground we look out on the lovely Carlingford Lough. So when we gather for worship each Sunday we have a special appreciation of God's wonderful creation.

Whilst small in numbers, the Presbyterian Community is part of a wider Christian community with Anglican, and Roman Catholic Churches catering for the spiritual needs of their respective flocks. Our community is strong with mutual respect for each others diversity and just outside the village we have a Benedictine Monastery which is very supportive of the various Christian traditions.

We hope you enjoy reading our website. To the church throughout Ireland and beyond we can offer the facilities of our Youth Centre which is popular with various youth groups at weekends but can also cater for other groups eg. Church leaders, Elders, Deacons etc meeting in a relaxing atmosphere to discuss and renew their vision.

If you are in the area why not join us for worship at 10 am. each Sunday. Our worship, typical of Presbyterian worship, is Bible based and Christ-centred. It is my privilege as the full-time Teaching Elder (Minister) to prepare God's Word, believing that God speaks to us through the Scriptures a practical and encouraging word. Here is to be found sure and certain truth for living in our uncertain contemporary society. So welcome and do pray for us as we witness to the living Christ in our lovely situation by the shores of Carlingford Lough.

History

Rostrevor Presbyterian Church has been in existence for over 150 years. The world is very different today to the world of 1850 when the congregation was established. There have been many changes during that time but the congregation is confident in the fact that the Lord does not change.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and for ever.(Hebrews 13 v 8).

The late Dr Henry Cooke who was present at the laying of the foundation stone of Rostrevor Church commented that "the Church to be erected here will be frequented by some to whom it will be a well of life, it will be seen and passed by multitudes who will never enter within its walls, but even to these also the fabric itself will not fail to express by its very presence among them a continued witness to God, to His Word and to the value of His Holy ordinance".

Church Family

The congregation has around 35 families connected to it and it runs a small but nonetheless active PW Group with an emphasis on total church involvement.

The Church has recently undergone much restoration work. The work has enabled the congregation to work closely together, each member expressing their own individual gifts and talents in serving others, in pleasing God, and in bringing Glory to His name.

Each one should use whatever gifts he/she has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in various forms, so that in all things God may be praised.1st Peter 4 v 10

The Sunday morning Services commence at 10.00am and conclude at 11.00am. On the first Sunday of each Month members and those visiting the congregation remain after the service and enjoy refreshments and fellowship with one another.

Visiting groups staying at our Youth Centre are invited to the morning services and indeed encouraged to participate as we worship God together.

Youth Centre

Within the grounds of the Church stands the former Manse now used as the Rostrevor Youth Centre. The Youth Centre, which is presently under the management of Church House, Fisherwick Place, Belfast, BT1 6DW Telephone (028) 9032 2284 has also undergone refurbishment. As has been documented by the General Assembly, the Rostrevor Youth Centre will in due course be handed back to the congregation to administer. It is hoped this will add a significant dimension to the life of our Church. The Centre, which can cater for groups of 26, is an ideal location for church groups of all varieties to enjoy fellowship in this beautiful area of God's creation. The church believe the Centre is a great asset to all who use it and we trust that God will be pleased to use the Centre to add to His Kingdom.
